if you remember, a while back i had a post from a funeral that i took pictures at. i was shooting film and digital that day and when i got home there was still some film left . . . so i ventured out with my two dogs on a walk around the golf coarse. i wanted to show you a few pictures because i love the richness that a negative actually produces.

first, there is this lovely picture i took of myself. gorge eh? well if you notice, the actual detail in just my skin variations is incredible. film will always give you that. you can also see how my face is a little lit up even though it is a grey overcast day, well the sun was setting and i LOVE how the windows are catching the light in the background (getting a broad spectrum of exposure). another thing is the texture of hair with film. sometimes with digital you just can't feel the texture, it gets lost in the pixelation, but with film and good exposure . . . sometimes its like you can actually feel the hair just by looking at it. not that you all want to feel my hair.

this other picture is of my sidekick mazzy. BEAUTIFUL little animal she is, inside and out. with this picture you get that goldeny haze moving across the right side of the film because of the sunset. with film i again ALWAYS notice that when shooting into sun you don't loose details and your contrast STICKS instead of getting blown out or lost in the pixels. look at how the light is catching the dew on the tips of the grass and her nose and yet my darks are still dark.
oh to my love of film
and cameras
and ruth bernhard
and the darkroom
and to digital
it is all wonderful.
